Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Would a compact 50 × 60-inch throw suit the chair or lap area you want to warm?
The HD71 is listed in a 50 × 60-inch throw format. It is not a bed-sized blanket or a fitted mattress pad.
Explore this need in the finder →Do you need the blanket to switch itself off within two continuous hours?
The HD71 instructions specify a fixed two-hour automatic shutoff; it cannot be adjusted to a longer interval.
Explore this need in the finder →Do you want at least four heat levels, and can you use the manual’s 120 V AC setup?
The model booklet lists four heat levels and 120 V AC, 60 Hz, 100 W operation. It is a corded household blanket, not a battery-powered throw.
Explore this need in the finder →Beurer’s HD71 is a corded 50 × 60-inch heated throw with one four-level controller, a 100-watt rating and a fixed two-hour shutoff. Its size and control steps resemble the HD61, but the shorter timer changes which lounging routines fit. The exact booklet calls the textile Microplush; the current product page instead describes it as fleece, so keep that wording difference in view.
A compact 50 × 60-inch throw
The HD71 is intended as a personal layer for a sofa, armchair or lap rather than a fitted bed warmer. Its dimensions are 50 × 60 inches, and the current Beurer page lists a weight of 3.9 pounds. That makes its stated footprint easy to compare with the HD61’s identical 50 × 60-inch size, but neither product page gives a body-size fit chart or promises coverage for every chair. If you need more length for leg coverage or to share, measure the intended space and consider a larger throw instead of relying on a general “heated blanket” title.
There is a real terminology difference in the source material. The current product page describes the blanket as high-quality fleece, while the exact model booklet’s technical specifications name Microplush. I use the booklet’s material term but flag the inconsistency rather than translating the two labels into a made-up fiber composition. Neither source gives polyester percentages, pile depth or a measured warmth test. The official gallery image shows a gray-appearing folded blanket with one inline controller, but Beurer does not say whether the packshot is a photograph, composite or render; the image does not resolve the textile naming difference.
Four heat levels and a shorter fixed cutoff
The controller provides four steps—Warm, Low, Medium and High—and a light indicates the selected setting. These are choices, not published temperature readings. The manual rates the blanket at 100 watts on 120-volt, 60-hertz AC power. It is therefore a household outlet model, not a rechargeable or battery-operated wrap. Beurer does not publish the cord length in the page or manual sections reviewed, so confirm your outlet position and cable path before choosing a chair.
The HD71 switches off automatically after two continuous hours; the interval is fixed rather than programmable. That can fit a shorter reading or television session and may be less convenient if you regularly sit longer than two hours. The HD61 is a close size-and-setting comparison with a four-hour cutoff, not a universally better version. Neither timer removes the need to follow the manual: Beurer says never to leave the blanket unattended, warns that burns can occur at any setting, and says not to use it with an infant, an immobile person or someone with reduced heat sensitivity. Avoid sharp folds, wet use, pinching or trapping the cord, and use on moving or wheeled furniture. Keep all portions visible instead of tucking the throw into a sofa.
The product page and booklet describe a safety system that switches the blanket off if a fault occurs. That is a protective feature, not a substitute for inspecting the blanket and cord or following the warnings. After a power interruption, the manual says the two-hour timer resets; it should not be treated as a precise reminder that the throw is safe to leave operating.
Care instructions are specific
Beurer describes the HD71 as machine washable when the controller is detached. The linked booklet says to unplug from the wall and disconnect the control connector before cleaning. Use lukewarm water, slow agitation and normal spin; it permits a brief two-minute low-heat dryer cycle or line drying. Remove it while damp, block it back toward its original size and drape to finish drying. The connector must be completely dry before the blanket is plugged in again. Do not dry-clean, bleach, wring or iron it; do not submerge the controller or use chemical or abrasive cleaners. That short dryer allowance is not a claim that the blanket can be fully tumble dried in an ordinary cycle.
Warranty wording needs a check as well. The model booklet dated 2019 says “limited lifetime” for the original purchaser. Beurer North America’s current U.S./Canada warranty policy, updated in 2026, says products carry a five-year limited warranty. Those are not the same term. Confirm the applicable written coverage for the exact item and seller rather than treating either the older booklet or a retailer’s general claim as conclusive.
Who it suits, and when the HD61 may fit better
The HD71 suits someone who wants a compact corded throw with four heat steps and a firm two-hour automatic cutoff. Its smaller format is convenient for one chair; the two-hour limit is the defining choice, not a technical advantage for every household. It is not a bed-size blanket, fitted mattress pad, cordless wrap or dual-control option. Skip it if your session needs a four-hour runtime before the automatic stop or you require a documented cord length, fiber percentage or exact warranty duration.
Choose between the Beurer HD71 and HD61 by timer first: both are listed at 50 × 60 inches and have four settings, while the HD71 stops after two hours and HD61 after four. The HD71 booklet lists 100 watts and Microplush; the HD61 listing gives a 3.6-pound weight and an approximately 40-second coil warm-up claim, but the manufacturer does not describe that timing in the HD61 booklet. If an eight-foot cord and brushed fleece on both faces matter, the separately reviewed Sunbeam 32810123 black SKU 14579 offers those published details and a fixed four-hour cutoff. For full-bed heat or independent partner controls, compare a bed blanket or mattress pad rather than assuming a small throw will cover the mattress.
