Format and fit
Berkshire Heated VelvetLoft blanket or faux-fur throw?
Berkshire Home Company's E0817 heated VelvetLoft blanket and four-option faux-fur throw share a brand and a built-in EZ Touch style of control, but they solve different fit problems. Start by deciding whether you want warmth across a bed or a smaller layer for a chair. Only then compare their finishes and controls.
Start with the layer position
The E0817 is a loose top blanket offered as Twin (62 × 84 inches), Full/Queen (84 × 90 inches) or King (100 × 90 inches). It is not fitted around a mattress. Full and Queen share one 84 × 90-inch offer and the same size-specific SKU for each finish. If you need a fitted under-sheet pad with elastic corners or a separately described underblanket, the E0817's bed-size name does not meet that requirement.
The heated faux-fur throw is 50 × 60 inches, a smaller sofa-and-chair footprint. The product page describes it as suitable for lounging and bedtime cuddling, but does not list a hood, pockets, snaps or cape fasteners. A normal drape is not a wearable design. If hands-free use while moving matters, choose a product whose exact model and images show the fastening you need.
What changes in the controls?
| Choice | E0817 top blanket | E0815 / E0818 / E0819 / E0820 throw |
|---|---|---|
| Listed settings | 8 | 4 |
| Automatic shutoff | 8 hours | 4 hours |
| Listed cord length | 15 ft | 8.3 ft |
| Surface description | VelvetLoft with dobby rib; 100% polyester | Soft faux fur; 100% polyester |
| Exact size options | Twin, Full/Queen, King | One 50 × 60 in throw size |
More settings do not mean higher heat: neither listing gives a temperature scale or comparative heating measurement. Both products show a touch control integrated into the textile, but neither public page documents a detachable remote or independent left/right control zones. If a separate sleeping partner adjustment is essential, do not treat a bed-sized format or the image of one touch panel as proof of dual-zone operation. Likewise, the published cord length is a listed total, not an independently tested outlet-reach measurement.
Choose finish by exact SKU, then check care and safety
The E0817 comes in Dark Sage, Aged Leather, Amherst Grey, Arona and Cream; the size-and-color pair determines the complete style code, such as E0817-TW-248 or E0817-KG-008. The throw finishes are Cream E0820-T1-008, Wild Dove E0819-T1-95K, Striped Arctic Fur E0815-T1-MUP and Historical Blue E0818-T1-17N. Some images have very different raised patterns even though the maker groups them on one product page. Images are useful for finish identification, not proof of fiber beyond the stated composition, temperature, exact size or photograph-versus-render status.
One important care difference is that the throw's exact product instructions say air/line dry only. The E0817 product page gives an optional five-minute high-heat dryer finish, while Berkshire's current heated-item FAQ says heated products should be air/line dried only. For the E0817, use the sewn-in care label and conservative current manufacturer guidance unless the company confirms the dryer method for that exact SKU. Disconnect power before washing and keep the control dry. Berkshire's heated-use page says not to tuck, scrunch, ball up or operate the item when wet, and specifies 120 V, 60 Hz. Check the sewn-in tracker label against the CPSC's 2023 recall range information; the notice identifies tracker numbers, not just a product color.
A practical decision
- Choose E0817 if you want a bed-spanning top layer and the listed size, eight heat levels, eight-hour stop and ribbed VelvetLoft surface suit your setup.
- Choose one of the faux-fur SKUs if you want a smaller 50 × 60-inch throw for seated use and prefer its four levels and four-hour automatic stop.
- Choose neither on assumptions about dual-side heating, a specific temperature, weight, wattage, detachable control, or shorter timer choices: those details are not established by the public product pages.
- If your priority is a fitted layer under sheets, compare an actual mattress pad; if you need wearable warmth, compare a hooded or snap-secured model instead.
